Garage Door Panel Replacement: reading the quote

The manufacturer's label is the starting point.

The manufacturer's label is the starting point. It is often a sticker on the end of a section, on the inside of the top section or on the vertical track, and it usually gives the model or series, a date and sometimes a colour code. Failing that, the panel design, section heights, thickness, joint profile and hinge spacing narrow it down, and the distributor can usually confirm the model from photographs and measurements.

Condition of tracks and cables

An impact often nudges a track bracket or nicks a cable where it wraps the drum. Straightening or resetting track and replacing a cable are itemised so the section quote stays clear.

Hinges, rollers and brackets

Hardware bent or worn by the damage is replaced along with the section. The quote lists hinges by joint position, rollers by type, and any bottom or top brackets, so you can see what accompanies the section itself.

Windows in the section

A glazed section carries frames, glass and sometimes decorative inserts, each specified with the order. A section with windows is quoted as a glazed section; adding windows where there were none changes the line as well.
